  • St James, Guest (guest) wrote 13 years ago:
Saint Mirren moved to Greenhill Road some years ago and their old site is now home to a supermarket. St James's Park near to Abbotsinch Airport is known locally as the Racecourse as horse racing took place here in the 1800's until a stand collapsed and many people were killed. The "Silver Bells" is the oldest known racing trophy anywhere and was raced for here. The trophy is on display at Paisley Museum

Fifty-two years since I left PGS, but the old building is still recognisable, surrounded by additions of various ages. One of my old schoolmates was Rector many years later. Ah, nostalgia!

Back in the good old days, Camphill School stood here. Rab Drainer was the Heidie, Old George was a notable maths teacher, Wee Macrossan was a greatly feared English teacher, and Mr. Ironside a greatly respected tech teacher. I still remember some of the words he spoke, and the good advice he gave. Bill Kerr
